Lowell T. Austin




Lowell T. Austin, 84, of Eighty-Four, North Strabane Township, died Sunday, January 17, 2016 at his home.

He was born December 21, 1931 in Marianna; a son of Fred and Virginia Nedley Austin.

Mr. Austin was retired as an electrical engineer with the former MCI Corporation in Beckley, WV.

He served in the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant in the 508th Airborne Regimental Combat Team during the Korean War and was a member of Viewcrest Presbyterian Church of America in Eighty-Four.

Mr. Austin, along with his friend Boyd Spillman, organized and constructed the Thomas Baseball Fields in 1965.

He enjoyed being a licensed pilot and ham radio operator.

Surviving is his wife of 60 years, Bonnie Brown Austin; a son, Lowell Thomas Austin, Jr. and his wife Laura of Canonsburg; a daughter, Lori Austin of Eighty-Four; a brother, Fred Austin of Haymarket, VA; five grandchildren, Jessica, Andrew, Stephanie, Jenette and Michael; and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased are two brothers, Harry and Charles Austin, and two sisters, Emmajean Lee and Eleanor DiCarlo.

There will be no public visitation. Private interment will be held in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Cecil Township.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Viewcrest Presbyterian Church, 833 Linden Road, Eighty-Four, with Pastor Shaun Nolan officiating.

Memorial contributions can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
