Alfred Lewis Pelkey, 89, of Finleyville, Pa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at Jefferson Hospital, just three weeks shy of his 90th birthday.
Pelkey was born in a log cabin in Venetia, Pa, on June 26, 1935. He was the only child of Jonas and Mary Alice (Curdie) Pelkey. He graduated from Monongahela High School and proceeded to work at ACME Markets and Liberty USA in West Mifflin.
He married Darlene (Haas) on March 19, 1977. They were married for 48 years. Pelkey loved his family and was beloved by all who knew him.
Pelkey loved horses and had five at one time. He also loved his Yorkie, Coco. Darlene and Pelkey spent all their time together, and Pelkey enjoyed taking care of his wife, home and land. He retired from Liberty USA in 2001. He was Presbyterian.
Pelkey is survived by his wife, Darlene; stepson, Ted Dobranski; grandchildren Amanda (Dave) Stone, Melissa (Ryan) McConnell and Ethan Dobranski; great-grandchildren Rayne Stone and Ryan and Conor McConnell; in-laws Thelma Lauritzen, Jimmy Haas, Nicki (Dave) Kovalcik and Sandy Doby; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers-in-law Ted Hazard and John Haas.
A memorial celebration will be announced at a future date.
