Carlyn “Tawny” (VanVoorhis) Patterson, 88, of Venetia died peacefully at home on Sunday, April 25, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on August 17, 1932 in New Eagle; the only child of William ‘Bill’ and Eleanor Wilson McClure.
Tawny was a 1950 graduate of Peters Township High School and was a lifelong member of Wright’s United Methodist Church in Venetia where she served in many capacities, including Women’s Group president and Sunday School superintendent. Singing in the church choir was one of her greatest joy.
Family gatherings, especially around the holidays, saw Tawny at her happiest. She also had a lifelong love for animals of all kinds, starting with her childhood dog, ‘Ming Toy’, and concluding with her faithful friend, ‘Pippi’.
She had a zest for life that was unmistakable. From traveling with friends and family to playing the piano until the wee hours, she lived life on her own terms and made everyone around her better.
Tawny was preceded in death, the love of her life, her husband, Donald ‘Jeep’ VanVoorhis.
She leaves behind four children; James Brent (Loanne) VanVoorhis of Kingston, TN, Carla Yohe of Venetia, Tracey VanVoorhis of Venetia and Lana VanVoorhis of Eighty Four; a grandson, Joshua Yohe of McMurray; and four great grandchildren, Colton, Connor, Brad and Kayla, all of Amherstview, Ontario, Canada.
A special thank you to the good people of Amedisys Hospice, who made final days very peaceful.
There will be no funeral services and interment in Jefferson Memorial Park will be private.
