John Volk

            John Volk, 87, of Finleyville died Sunday, November 27, 2016 in the emergency room of Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Jefferson Hills Borough.

            He was born December 16, 1928 in Ginger Hill; a son of Nicholas and Pauline Basurup Volk.

            Mr. Volk was retired as chief payroll clerk with the former Mathies Mine of Consol Coal Company.

            He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was a member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Monongahela.

            Surviving are his wife, Ann Havel Volk; a brother, Charles Volk (Evelyn) of Finleyville; and several nieces and nephews.

            Deceased are two brothers, Mike, Sr. and Nicholas Volk, and four sisters, Mary Tortorelli, Ann Volk, Pauline Novotney and Helen Neale.

            Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Wednesday at Kegel Funeral Home, Inc., Tim P. Kegel, supervisor, David P. Kegel, director, 3560 Washington Avenue in Finleyville. Panachida Services will be celebrated at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.  A Funeral Service will be celebrated at 9:30 A.M. Thursday, December 1, 2016 at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Monongahela with the Very Reverend Edward Pehanich as celebrant.  Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery with full military honors accorded by Mon Valley Honor Guard and Firing Squad.  Memorial contributions can be made to St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 6^th Street & Marne Avenue, Monongahela, PA 15063.
