Joseph J. Polacek

            Joseph J. Polacek, 89, of Venetia died Friday, October 28, 2016 at Monongahela Valley Hospital in Carroll Township.

            He was born June 18, 1927 in Hooversville, PA; a son of Joseph and Catherine Brandis Polacek.

            Mr. Polacek was retired as a foreman with the former LTV Steel Corporation in Pittsburgh.

            He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII and was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church and Knights of Columbus of St. Francis in Finleyville, American Legion Post 175 in Washington, VFW Post 764 in McMurray, GoldenAgers and Forever Young Club, both of Finleyville, Venetia Heritage Society, and a life member of D.A.V. PA Chapter 16.

            Mr. Polacek was an active volunteer with many senior organizations and was a self-taught musician, playing the harmonica for many events in the area, with his favorite being the annual ‘Showboat’ musical in Monongahela.

            Surviving are his wife, Shirley Thropp Polacek; two sons, Ralph (Karen) Agostinella of Canonsburg and John (Alyce) Agostinella of Venetia; two daughters, Lilanne Agostinella (Jim Brown) of South Strabane and Pamela Polacek of Mechanicsburg, PA; a brother, Andrew Polacek of Edgewater, FL; two sisters, Betty Green and Theresa Thieret, both of New Eagle; six grandchildren, one great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

            Deceased is a sister, Mary Maranich.

            Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Tuesday at Kegel Funeral Home, Inc., Tim P. Kegel, supervisor, David P. Kegel, director, 3560 Washington Avenue, in Finleyville.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Finleyville, with Reverend Robert J. Boyle as celebrant.  Interment will follow in Finleyville Cemetery with full military honors accorded by Mon Valley Honor Guard and Firing Squad.  Memorial contributions can be made to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 3609 Washington Avenue, Finleyville, PA  15332.
